Why I built LashRetention

I did not come to lash extensions through beauty. I came to it through a spreadsheet. In 2023 a studio owner in Sacramento asked me to look at why her revenue had gone flat while her client list kept growing, and I spent two weeks pulling four years of appointments into one file. The client list had grown by a third. The number of appointments per client had fallen from fourteen a year to nine. She was not losing clients at all. She was losing the interval between their visits, one week at a time, and nothing in her booking software had a way to show her that.

What surprised me was how normal that turned out to be. I spoke to nineteen more studios over the following months, in Texas, Illinois, Idaho, Georgia and upstate New York, and almost every one of them could name their loyal regulars but none of them could tell me how many days those regulars now waited between fills. The number had drifted quietly while everyone was busy, and by the time it showed up in the bank account it had been true for a year.

The other thing I learned is that lash artists already know the answer. Every artist I sat with could tell me, without a record in front of her, that a client who trains five days a week sheds faster than a client who works at a desk, that a lift needs different aftercare from a volume set, that the outer corners go first when someone sleeps face down. The knowledge was never the problem. Holding two hundred versions of it in your head while you are gluing 0.05 fans to a natural lash with your face six inches from someone's eyelid, that is the problem.

So LashRetention does not try to teach anyone the trade. It keeps the count. It stores what you saw at the bed, it works out what each client's real interval is instead of applying one studio wide guess, and it speaks up four days before her window closes so the message arrives while a fill is still a fill. Everything else in the product had to earn its place next to that, and several early features did not and were removed.

Experience and expertise

I have spent eleven years building software for small operators: independent shops, single location service businesses and the kind of company where the owner is also the person cleaning up at the end of the day. Before MLJ I worked on scheduling and customer record systems, which is where I developed a strong dislike of software that assumes a business has an office, a manager and a spare hour to configure something.

I founded MLJ, SASU in Paris in October 2024 to publish a small family of focused products, each one aimed at a single trade rather than at everybody. LashRetention is the one built for lash and brow studios. I am not a licensed lash artist and I have never claimed to be. What I bring is the discipline of measurement, the willingness to sit in a studio for a day and watch, and eleven years of learning when to stop adding things.

How this product is built and maintained

Every feature starts as a request from a studio that is already paying for the product. Nothing ships because it looked good in a competitor's screenshot. Once a feature is live it is reviewed at three months, and if the working artists in the account are not using it, it comes out again rather than sitting in the interface as clutter.

The claims on this site are held to the same standard. Every number published here comes from anonymized, aggregated account data across the 612 US studios on the platform, measured between January and August 2026, and I recalculate them each quarter. If a figure falls, the site is edited to show the lower figure. Prices on this page are the prices you pay, in US dollars, billed monthly, with no setup fee and no per client charge. Client records are never sold, rented or used to train anything, and they are never shared with an advertising network.

I write the copy on this site myself, which is why it sounds like one person rather than a committee. If something here is wrong, unclear or out of date, telling me is the fastest way to get it fixed.
